Hugh Freeze Contract Buyout

Hugh Freeze Set to Leave Liberty for Auburn

Freeze Accepts 6-Year, $65 Million Contract

Liberty to Buyout Freeze's Remaining Contract

After leading Liberty University to unprecedented football success, Hugh Freeze is set to become the next head coach at Auburn University. ESPN's Pete Thamel reports that Freeze will receive a six-year contract worth $65 million annually.

Liberty has agreed to a buyout of Freeze's remaining contract, which was set to expire after the 2026 season. The buyout amount has not been disclosed.

Freeze's departure is a major blow to Liberty's football program, which he has transformed into a perennial contender at the FBS level. Under Freeze, the Flames have won three conference championships, made five bowl appearances, and finished ranked in the top 25 of the College Football Playoff rankings twice.

Freeze's success at Liberty has earned him widespread recognition and respect within the college football community. He was named the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year in 2020 and has been a finalist for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award twice.

Auburn is hoping that Freeze can bring the same success to their program. The Tigers have struggled in recent years, finishing with a losing record in each of the past three seasons. Freeze is known for his up-tempo offense and aggressive defense, which are both expected to be a good fit for Auburn's talented roster.
